Ready-Cut Village Vintage Paper Village - Pt 2 Village Store

Next up in our 5-part series of the 'Ready-Cut Village' is the Village Store. As I said yesterday, I'm not sure if this is a 1920s or 1930s era set but personally I believe it's mid-to-late 1920s.  There's not much on the artwork shown here today that would help date this. The little by is wearing knickers (short for knickerbockers) which were popular for boys from the mid 1800s to the mid 1900s. Knickers were also called knee pants and the transition from wearing them to long pants was somewhat of a rite of passage back in the day. Eventually they stopped being used by boys and evolved into ladies underwear. Aside from being boys wear, they were also a major part of baseball uniforms and remain so today in modified form being longer and tighter than the originals but still directly descended from those early pants. Enjoy! Opa Fritz and Oma Bettina

Look at the meat hanging from hooks and the fish displayed in the store window

This window shows a pile of pumpkins, a barrel full of...? (pickles perhaps) a stack of canned goods and whole bunch of bananas hanging there. When was the last time you saw bananas hanging in a bunch like that?  The girls clothes hold no clue as to whether it's 1920s or 1930s
