Train Time - Lionel #1688E Pennsylvania Torpedo Steam Locomotive

****Amended to correct engine number from 1668T to 1688E*****

Being in a rush (again) and not having anything else ready right away, I've resorted once more to the 'forgotten fotos file' and pulled these shots of this prewar (ca1936) Lionel #1688T Pennsy Torpedo Steam Locomotive I sold a couple years back. It's one heck of an attractive locomotive and part of me wishes I didn't get rid of it, but that's life!

The real engine was Pennsylvania Locomotive #3768 which the Pennsylvania Railroad had clad in this streamlined casing designed by famed industrial designer Raymond Loewy in 1936. The cladding hid nearly all of the functions of the engine and was dubbed "The Torpedo" by engine crews. While Lionel's was finished in a gunmetal gray, the original was finished first in bronze but later painted a dark green. Enjoy! Opa Fritz and Oma Bettina
